Planting at New Tidal River Visitor Centre 24-25 June 2026

Over two beautiful days - Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 June - twenty dedicated volunteers and Parks Victoria Rangers came together to transform the garden beds around the new Tidal River Visitor Centre.

The team achieved an outstanding effort, planting over 1,000 Poa's and grasses along with a few grass trees and other small shrubs. The plants were carefully guarded to give them the best start in their new home.

Cam was very pleased with everything that was achieved, while Mary noted (with a smile) that the Nursery stocks had barely been touched!

On Friday 26 June, the new Visitor Centre was officially declared open, highlighted by a moving smoking ceremony conducted by representatives of the three Traditional Owner groups. It was a wonderful gathering that included Parks Victoria head office staff, Prom Rangers, Friends of the Prom members, Andy and Mark, and members of the work crew. The weather was perfect, the BBQ lunch was thoroughly enjoyed, and it was especially lovely to catch up with our former liaison ranger, Cassie, who joined us from Phillip Island.

It was incredibly satisfying to see the results of two days of hard work looking so good and ready to grow. These gardens will enhance the visitor experience at Tidal River for years to come.
